"New World Order" is a song by American heavy metal band Megadeth. It was written by Dave Mustaine, Dave Ellefson, Marty Friedman and Nick Menza[1] during the Clash of the Titans Tour in 1991, and a demo was made for Countdown to Extinction,[2] However, it was not released on either Countdown to Extinction or the followup album, Youthanasia. "New World Order" was released on Thirteen in November 2011.[3] Mustaine didn't use the song on Youthanasia because he "didn't feel it was finished enough to use on the record at the time."[1]

A demo of the song, which is missing several guitar parts, was released on the the Japanese version of Hidden Treasures in 1995 and the 2004 remix/remaster of Youthanasia[1] and also an earlier finished version was released on the Duke Nukem soundtrack in 1999.[1] Rather confusingly, this version of the song was released on the 2007 remastered version of Hidden Treasures (which otherwise follows the Japanese version's track listing), though it is incorrectly still listed as a demo. The earlier final version also appeared on 2 compilations: Warchest (2007) and Anthology: Set the World Afire (2008).
In a 2011 interview with musicradar.com, Dave Ellefson said the song was re-recorded at the insistence of drummer Shawn Drover. According to Ellefson "Dave [Mustaine] updated some parts and made them more violent."[2]
